About the Mumey Law Firm

Principal

Rick Mumey spent over 20 years as a Houston firefighter before beginning his legal career representing working men and women in Texas, including Houston firefighters. A 2001 graduate of the University of Houston Law Center, Rick has aggressively represented thousands of firefighters in their employment disputes with various Texas cities.

Pension Valuation

If you have a pension, it is likely your biggest financial asset. That’s a good thing. You earned it. Unfortunately, since the advent of DROP, the pension has also become the most contested marital asset in divorce. Rick Mumey is one of the leading attorneys on this subject. Even if you have another lawyer handling your divorce, you should consider having them contact Rick to assist as your pension expert.

Disability Pension for Firefighters

Rick has experience assisting firefighters who find themselves seeking a disability pension due to occupational illness or injury. For those firefighters who have elected to participate in DROP, the process is difficult. Rick has guided many firefighters through this tricky process and has been successful gaining approval of this important benefit for those who must prematurely leave their career due to work-related injury or illness, including cancer and heart or lung disease.
